Aquaculture for food and jobs initiative launched at South Dayi District

On Monday 16th of September 2024, under the Aquaculture for Food and Jobs initiative, 50 youth in the South Dayi District have completed training in aquaculture.
The effort to establish a supportive environment for aquaculture farming through creative fishing methods to boost economic growth was started by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
A total of GHC 38,000 would be spent on tarpaulin pond, six bags of fish feed, and 1000 fingerlings of cat fish for each of the 50 participants.
Additionally, for the six months before to harvest, they would get a monthly stipend of GHC 600.
During the training session, Hon. Godwin Kwame Dadzawa (DCE_SDDA) stated that, the Aquaculture for Food and work program was an initiative of President Akufo-Addo’s administration to provide employment and generate income for the multitude of young people without work.
He reiterated that the initiative was the first large-scale implementation of its type.
According to the DCE, the government intended to expand the initiative’s employment opportunities so that people might start fishing and raise their level of life and also
entrepreneurship is the best way to financial freedom.
The DCE made a suggestion that the government would keep pursuing strong economic measures like these in order to give the country’s young access to riches and employment opportunities and fish farming is viable business opportunity should seriousness be attached to it.
Participants were guided through pond setup, water appropriateness, fish handling, feeding, and record keeping by Mr. Isaac Asare the facilitator from the Ministry of Agriculture and Aquaculture.
On behalf of his colleagues, Mr. Razak Doh, a recipient, expressed gratitude to the President for giving them the chance to engage in such a profitable business that would allow them to make a good life.
