On 8th March ,2022, Member of Parliament for South Dayi launched Inter Schools Quiz and Debate Competition among the Schools in the district under the theme; LIBERATING THE TALENTS OF OUR FUTURE LEADERS.
This is a full sponsorship package by the Member of Parliament Hon. Lawyer Rockson Nelson Etse Dafeamekpor. During the launch, the Regional Director of Education Madam Afi Amafuga was represented by the Regional Chief Inspector of Schools .
In his address on behalf of the Regional Director, who was the Guest speaker for the occasion said the timing for the launch of this laudable programe is the best since it will arouse interest of the students to learn since they have been at home as a result of Covid for sometime, and this will go a long way to improve their performance.
He applauded the Hon. Members of Parliament for taking such bold initiative and urged him to keep on with the good work. The District Director of Education for South Dayi Mr. Victor Kwaku Kovey in his welcome address shared with the gathering how the Hon. Member of Parliament has being supporting education since his appointment as the District Director, though he has heard of other interventions the M.P has being given to support education before his arrival in the district.
He used the opportunity to praise the unity that is at display between the District Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament and urged them to keep the spirit on since it is good for development. He further promised to ensure that Quiz and Debate competition is well organized and sustained. The Hon. District Chief Executive Hon. Godwin K. Dzadzawa in his address said in South Dayi the ultimate aim of both himself and the Hon. Member of Parliament Hon. Rockson is to bring development to the people and that is what they stand for regardless of their political differences and has urged the people of South Dayi to be more united for this purpose. The Hon. Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Hon. Dafeamekpor who was the Guest of Honour and the Official sponsor of the Inter Schools Quiz and Debate competition was full of joy for the turn out and the commitment of the various Schools. He said it has always being his desire to see the younger ones who are the future leaders rise up to become responsible adults. He added that, in the near future South Dayi should be able to produce competent Lawyers, Accountants, Lectures and other responsible professions. He said there are a lot of hidden talents in our young students and that needs to be harnessed. He mentioned some of the interventions he has carried out in the district so far as education is concerned, among the many of the interventions mentioned, the following are few of them: the construction of some classroom blocks, provided over six hundred bags of cement and roofing sheets to some of the schools to rehabilitate the classroom blocks, provision of furniture both mono and dual desks, sponsored district Mock for the form three students to keep them prepared every year for their final examination, supply of educational materials such as mathematical sets and exercise books, provided Laptops for the schools to promote E-learning and improve research work of the teachers, gave and continue to give financial assistance and in some cases full scholarship packages to Tertiary Students in the district, the Tilling of the education directorate, supply of football and Jerseys to all the Senior High Schools in the district and most of the basic Schools. The quiz and Debate competition will be among the Primary, JHS and the SHS in the district. He promised that the winners at each level of the competition will be awarded. Educational materials, Trophies, and cash prizes will be the awards. The modalities for the Program was outlined by the district Exams Officer Mr. Bright Mensah. The program will cover ten years duration and after every three years there will be a review to ensure its sustainability. Togbe Akudompey XI -The Paramount Chief of Kpeve Traditional Area was the Chairman for the occasion. In his address he acknowledge the importance of education in the life of an individual, his or her community and the nation as a whole therefor a program such as these will wake our learners to be serious with their studies and this is in the right direction. He applauded the MP and the district Director for the initiative. He advised that the quiz Masters and the Judges should be carefully selected in order to ensure fairness and transparency. Present at the program were the Chiefs and Elders from the four Traditional Areas, The District Police Commander and his men, The District Chief Executive , Regional Director of Education, The district Coordinating Director, Assembly Members, the Clergy, management of the south Dayi District Education Directorate , the Media, Heads of all the first and second cycle schools including their respective students, The constituency Organizer and the Treasure of the NDC among others were present to grace the occasion.
