MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON FRIDAY 26TH APRIL, 2024 IN THE DISTRICT…

the South Dayi District Health Directorate convened its 4th Quarter Risk Communication and Community Engagement Committee (RCCEC) meeting.
On Thursday, September 28, 2024, the South Dayi District Health Directorate convened its 4th Quarter Risk Communication and Community Engagement Committee (RCCEC) meeting
The district director of health services, Mr. Kolog Timbire Jonas, welcomed the committee members for coming to the meeting. He gave a brief overview of the meeting’s objectives which is updating the committee on the National Immunization Campaign against Measles and Rubella (M_R), the finalization of the district health emergency preparedness plan, traffic accidents, health hygiene concerns, particularly those pertaining to the district’s slaughterhouses, risk assessment, and the communication tool(s) that will help address the district’s social and health-related problems.
According to Mr. Kolog, between 2019 and 2023, there were 1317 confirmed positive cases nationwide of those, 7 instances of measles-rubella were reported in the Volta Region, with 2 of those cases coming from South Dayi District.
Because the virus can cause serious health effects in children, including blindness, brain cancer, and early death, he tasked all stakeholders to intensify the M_R & Vitamin A campaign to eradicate it.
Mr. Gideon Norvor, the District Disease Control Officer, and Miss Ama Dela, the Health Promotion Officer, alternated in updating the committee on the various steps the directorate has taken to ensure the exercise is successful. Miss Dela (HPO) urged stakeholders to send a message to the communities encouraging them to take ownership of the program by sending their children between the ages of nine months and five years old to the closest immunization post centers on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 for the M_R vaccination and vitamin A booster which also helps protect children’s vision and immunity to disease.
The draft of the finalization of the District Emergency Preparedness plan was presented to the house by Mr. Gideon Ameto (DDCO) of which an input was made by the house.
Giving his closing remarks the convenor Mr. Kolog (DDHS) touched on draft of the district emergency preparedness plan to enabled the health system to function promptly, effectively and efficiently to significantly reduce attributable deaths or disabilities
He there pleaded the DCD on the need to coordinate various department/stakeholders to come together to prepare a complete report to save life and properties.
