Volta Region Launches “Nkoko Nkitinkiti” Programme Under Feed Ghana Initiative

The Volta Region has officially launched the Nkoko Nkitinkiti poultry programme under the Government’s Feed Ghana Programme, aimed at boosting local poultry production, creating jobs, and improving household incomes across the region.
Speaking at the launch in Ho, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ho Central, Hon. Stephen Adom, described the initiative as a strategic intervention designed to enhance food security, promote local production, and create sustainable employment opportunities, particularly for the youth. He noted that the provision of day-old chicks, technical support, and veterinary services would help beneficiaries establish viable poultry enterprises.
Providing an overview of the programme, the Regional Coordinator, Mr. Godwin Agbenyegah, disclosed that the Volta Region had been allocated 180,000 day-old chicks, which would be distributed to households across the region to support poultry farming and income generation.
Officially launching the programme, the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, highlighted its significance in reducing poverty and empowering rural households. He noted that the initiative aligns with the region’s traditional coping mechanisms, where families often relied on the sale of poultry to meet urgent financial needs, describing the programme as a revival of an age-old poverty reduction strategy.
The National Coordinator of the Feed Ghana Programme, Mr. Bright Demordzi, explained that the initiative was driven by the need to reduce Ghana’s dependence on poultry imports, strengthen domestic production, create jobs, and improve the country’s self-sufficiency in poultry and meat production.
The event climaxed with the symbolic presentation of day-old chicks to selected beneficiaries, marking the official commencement of the programme in the Volta Region
