SOUTH DAYI DISTRICT ASSEMBLY LAUNCHES FREE PRIMARY HEALTH CARE PILOT

The South Dayi District Assembly, in collaboration with the South Dayi District Health Directorate, on Wednesday, 24th June 2026, officially launched the Free Primary Health Care (FPHC) Initiative at the forecourt of the District Assembly.

 

The event was led by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Courage Kwame Kokroko, together with the District Director of Health, Mr. Kolog Timbire Jonas. The ceremony was chaired by His Royal Majesty Deiga Kodzo Dei XII, Paramount Chief of the Peki Traditional Area and President of the Peki Traditional Council. Also in attendance were representatives from the Volta Regional Health Directorate, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), traditional authorities, Assembly Members, heads of departments, health professionals, and other key stakeholders.

 

In his welcome address, Hon. Courage Kwame Kokroko announced that the South Dayi District is one of the selected districts benefiting from Phase One of the Free Primary Health Care pilot programme. He described the initiative as a significant milestone that will improve access to quality healthcare and strengthen preventive health services across the district.

Delivering the keynote presentation, the District Director of Health, Mr. Kolog Timbire Jonas, outlined the key components of the initiative.

 

He explained that the programme provides free preventive, promotive, and basic curative healthcare services at the community and primary healthcare levels. These services include routine screening for hypertension, diabetes, and selected cancers; maternal and child healthcare; immunization services; health education; and treatment of common illnesses such as malaria and respiratory tract infections.

 

In his closing remarks, Mr. Kolog Timbire Jonas expressed profound appreciation to all stakeholders, partners, traditional leaders, development agencies, and members of the public for their invaluable support and commitment towards the successful launch of the Free Primary Health Care Initiative in the South Dayi District.
