The South Dayi District on Sunday 6th of March, 2022 celebrated the 65th Independence Day on the theme ” Working Together, Bouncing Back Better” at Tongor-Tsanakpe Basic School Park with a colourful parade.
In attendance were the DCE , Hon. Godwin Kwame Dadzawa, the MP, Hon. Rockson Nelson Etse Dafeamekpor, the DCD, Mr. Nathaniel Adzotor, the Queen Mother of Tongor-Tsanakpe, Mamagã Tormelo, Former DCE, Hon. Woyram Boachie-Danquah, District Education Director, Mr. Victor Kovey,Hon. Assembly members, Heads of Department of the District Assembly, Elders of Tongor- Tsanakpe, Staff of Education Directorate, Security Agencies , the Ambulance Services, the Clergy, Contingents of various Schools , media, Farmers, Okada Riders,Traders and Community members of Tongor-Tsanakpe.
In her brief welcome address, the Queen Mother of Tongor-Tsanakpe, Mamagã Tormelo expressed gratitude to the DCE, Hon. Godwin Kwame Dadzawa for choosing Tongor-Tsanakpe to host the celebration of the 65th Independence Day. Mamagã Tormelo wished for unity and peaceful coexistence among the Political Parties , Chiefs, religious leaders and citizens in the District. Mamagã Tormelo finally recognized the good work and efforts of the DCE, Hon. Godwin Kwame Dadzawa and the Member of Parliament , Hon. Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor in bringing development to the District.
The District Chief Executive, Hon. Godwin Kwame Dadzawa in his speech said he was highly honoured and privileged to address this important commemorative gathering as we celebrate the 65th independence anniversary of our dear nation Ghana. The DCE, Hon. Godwin Dadzawa further said that, the national celebration this year was being held at Cape coast in the Central Region of Ghana where His Excellency the President would be addressing the nation. The DCE, Hon. Dadzawa said last year it was an exception due to the ravaging spread of the second wave of COVID-19. He said he was indeed glad and thankful to God that we are able to mark this day as we usually do.

The DCE said the theme ” Working Together, Bouncing Back Better” resonates with the times and Seasons we find ourselves as a nation and was very apt, appropriate and timely.
He further said working together meant departing from our Parochial ideas, views and interests and pursue what would benefit the larger Society and the need to desist from extremism and forge greater collaboration for possible convergence. Hon. DCE said Ghana abounds in both natural and human resources and if harnessed and used effectively and efficiently with a common Purpose in mind, there is no height they cannot achieve as a nation.
The DCE said working together must not be seen as action to be taken only at the national level rather, must in fact begin from the family, Society and constituency levels. He said it is the cumulative effect of our working together at the lower levels that would reflect at the national level. The DCE said it therefore behoves us as a people to work together as Politicians, Religious Bodies, Civil Society Organizations and ordinary citizens with this right attitude.
The DCE used the opportunity to remind the school children that, they are the future leaders, however, the road to this role is through hard work ,discipline, humility, determination and perseverance.


In conclusion, the DCE parted the shoulders of the security agencies for their efforts at ensuring a colorful ceremony as well as the school children, the cadet Corps, the Traditional Leaders and the general public for their support over the years and particularly availing themselves of the program. The DCE noted that the Independence Day celebration would be rotated in the District from community to community, therefore next year’s celebration will take place at Peki-Dzake.
The celebration was graced with musical interlude and cultural performance from Tongor Tsanakpe Cultural Group as well as a vibrant and patriotic match past by contingents of various schools and some worker groups.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi, Hon. Rockson-Nelson Etse Dafeamekpor has presented sporting materials to the South Dayi District Directorate of Education for distribution to Sixteen (16) Basic Schools in the District
The items include sets of jerseys and footballs.
Hon. Rockson-Nelson Etse said the donation of the items was his contribution towards sports promotion and improvement of the standard of education in the Constituency.
He urged teachers to attach importance to physical education so as to help keep the pupils and students healthy and to also unearth sports talents at the youth level.
Mad. Agnes Nutakor, District Director of Education who received the items on behalf of the schools said they were grateful to the MP for the support and pledged to ensure that they are strictly used for the intended purpose.
She said it was the Education directorate’s determination to encourage and ensure that extra efforts are put in place to help the students’ develop their sporting and educational skills.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Godwin Kwame Dadzawa on Friday 18th February, 2022 visited Peki Police Station to sympathize with them due to the motor accident which claimed the lives of two Police Officers.
The DCE was accompanied by the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Nathaniel Adzotor, Togbe Ayim Morde V, Kpeve District Police Commander, DSP. Harry Selormey, Director of Education, Mr. Victor Kwaku Kovey, The District Social Development Director, Rev. Mrs. Emma Adom, Rep of the District Information Officer, Mr. Julius Afflu, Avetile East Assembly member, Hon. John Bobi, NPP Constituency Chairman, Mr. Freeman Ameyibor and the Rep of NDC Party, Mr. Prosper Dodo.
The DCE, Hon. Godwin Dadzawa and his entourage first met the family of the deceased officer, Evans Quansah, who happened to be present upon DCE’s arrival. The DCE consoled the deceased family and pledged his support and assistance concerning all that they need for a befitting burial.
Next was a brief meeting of the DCE, Hon. Godwin Dadzawa and his entourage with the Police Officers at the Station. The Police Officers present were Peki District Commander, DSP/Mr Nii Charles Otoo Quaye, In- charge Peki District Admin&Accident Unit, C/Inspr. Domaka Sydney, Peki Station Officer, Pw/C/Inspr. Victoria Lumor, Kpalime- Duga Station Officer, C/Inspr. Albert Dzotofe and Prosecutor&Station CID,D/Inspr. Emmanuel K. Awuah.
The Peki District Commander, DSP/Mr Nii Charles Otoo Quaye said the sad event took place last Sunday and it was not easy for them when they heard the news and that it was unbearable how as the entire station was engulfed in grief. He revealed that the deceased officers, Cpl. Evans Quansah aged 35 and Const. Richard Dadzie aged 29 left the station and about 7 to 8 mins they were pronounced dead, much to the amazement of the entire District Command.
DSP/Mr Nii Charles Otoo Quaye said the deceased Officers were transported to Peki Government Hospital Morgue before the National Delegates of Police came to transfer them to Accra Police Morgue for preservation.
He further said the deceased Officers, Cpl. Evans Quansah comes from Asamankese whilst Const. Richard Dadzie comes from Kumasi so they are liaising with the bereaved families to offer them the necessary support and therefore promised to inform the Assembly in case of any further information regarding the funeral arrangements.
The In- charge of the Peki District Admin&Accident Unit, C/Inspr. Domaka Sydney said the case is still under investigation but preliminary evidence has shown that the driver was over speeding when the tyre got burst causing it to veer into the opposite lane and crushed with the motor bike on which the two deceased Police Officers were riding. He said the sad event took place on Sunday 13th February, 2022 at 8:15 am between Peki-Ayensu and Pokuase on the Asikuma-Kpeve Highway.
Togbe Ayim Morde V, in his speech expressed his deep sorrow and sadness of the incident. Togbe Ayim said he is sorry the unfortunate thing has happened. Togbe Ayim said he is sorry the unfortunate thing has happened. Togbe Ayim said he was there to sympathize with them and therefore encouraged them to take heart and move on with their duties. Togbe Ayim finally acknowledged the hard work of the Police in the District and thanked God for their lives.
The DCE, Hon. Godwin Kwame Dadzawa consoled the Police Officers present. He said they should take heart and that he is ready to offer support and assistance for all they need. He petitioned the Officers to keep him updated with burial and funeral arrangements so that the Assembly can participate in biding the deceased Officers farewell.
The Peki District Commander, DSP/Mr Nii Charles Otoo Quaye in his words of appreciation thanked the delegation and expressed profound gratitude to Togbe Ayim Mordey and DCE for their love and support for the Police and finally thanked everyone for coming.
Hon. Godwin Dadzawa, DCE for South Dayi has commissioned a mechanized borehole for the people of Kpatsaxoe on Friday 18th February 2022.
The Chief Servant of SDDA, Mr. Godwin Dadzawa said when he assumed office on October 2022, the Assembly has awarded a contract for a mechanized water project for the community which was even drilled. Ironically the community does not have electricity power nor solar power to help pump water from the bored hole.
As the Assembly makes frantic efforts to extend electricity to the facility as a permanent measure the Assembly is left with no other option but to retrofit the system on manual operational mechanism.
He expressed optimism that the boreholes would last long and would go a long way to a ease the water problems and contribute to achieving the Millennium Sustainable Development Goals (SDFs), particularly goal 6.
He urged the chiefs and people of the Kpatsaxoe community to develop a maintenance culture to ensure maximum use of the facility.
The Chiefs and people of the communities expressed gratitude to the DCE and the government for the support and said it was a relief, especially to women and children, who hitherto travelled far distances to access potable water.
The mechanized borehole was constructed by the Tedson Drilling & Construction Company Limited.

The Association of Graduates in Skills Development- Ghana(AGSD-GH) in partnership with Office of the President – Youth Engagement Office on 3rd February, 2022 organized a day workshop dubbed ‘ Graduate Support Program’ in the District Capital, Kpeve.
The workshop recorded participants from all parts of the District to undergo training in three categories namely Mushroom (Category One), Liquid Soap , Shower gel and Alata Samina( Category Two) and Snail (Category Three) .
Certificates of participation were awarded to all participants as well as samples of snails, mushrooms and liquid soap making ingredients.
The facilitators promised that a seed capital for expansion would be given to support successful participants who have started with the samples they have received.
The program was participatory and successful.

Hon Godwin Dadzawa (DCE) for South Dayi District on the 18th of January 2022, Tuesday visited three schools in the district, as part of the “My first Day at School” programme, instituted by the government.
The “my first day at school” visits allow officials to welcome fresh entrants of primary and kindergarten one to school and encourage them to attend school regularly, increase enrolment and strive to learn hard.
He was accompanied by the District Coordinating Director Mr Nathaniel Adzotor , District Director of Education Mr Victor Kwaku Kovey, and other officers like Chief Iinspector of Schools ,HRMD, Head of Planning and the Public Relation Officer from South Dayi District Education office were present to welcome the new entrants to KG1 and Basic 1.

The DCE distributed items such as exercise books, crayons, pencils, erasers, drinks and biscuits to motivate and welcomed the fresh pupils to Kindergarten and Class One.
The DCE noted that the government had provided the needed environment for sound teaching and learning, and called on all stakeholders to complement the efforts of government, to ensure quality education for school children.
He mentioned some interventions as the Capitation Grant, School Feeding Programme, supply of text books and renovation of a number of dilapidated school blocks, under the Millennium Development Programme, as clear evidence of the government’s commitment to quality education, and said it behoved on all and sundry, to put in the maximum effort to help our children attain quality education.
The schools visited are Dzake E.P Primary A, B & C, Toh Kpalime D.A Primary School and Tongor Tsanakpe D.A Primary school.
The South Dayi District version of the National Farmers’ Day Celebration has been held at Peki Agbete. The celebration which attracted many farmers, workers and people from all parts of the District saw our gallant farmers being awarded with prizes and certificates for their selfless and dedicated work to the District and the nation as a whole.
In a speech to mark the occasion, the South Dayi Director of Food and Agriculture, Mr. Enock Kwamla Dzadzra welcomed all to the program and congratulated the farmers for their immense contributions towards the development of the District and the country as a whole. He said that as Ghana is celebrating the 37th Farmers’ Day, there is the need for the authority or government to celebrate the day to award farmers with goodies since they play critical role to make the nation attain foodstuffs

He stressed that since farmers do not use modern methods of farming, it makes them achieve low yield and hinted that, government is putting measures in place to support farmers obtain high outputs. He used the occasion to catalogue the programmes introduced by the government through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. He encouraged the youth to consider farming as a business but not a pensioner’s job.
The Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Hon. Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor congratulated all the farmers for their wonderful work they have put in place especially during the arrival of COVID-19 pandemic. He also expressed his gratitude to the farmers for producing more foodstuffs in the District and the nation as a whole.

He informed all the farmers to implement modern agriculture method. Since most farmers now cultivate using cutlass and a hole. This result into low farm yield. He made an emphasis stressing that the two foreign fish farmers in the district can produce more than 10,000 tonnes but the whole fish farmers in the district total yield in fish farming is not half of the two foreigners output in the District . He encourage all fish farmers in the district to grab the new modern method of fish farming.
Hon. Godwin Kwame Dadzawa, District Chief Executive (DCE) for the district announced that in the 2022 composite Budget of the South Dayi District under the Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) initiative of government, provision had been made to support the Department of Agriculture under the Planting for Export and Rural Development to raise a variety of seedlings such as oil palm, cashew, Mango , citrus and coconut for all interested farmers, Assembly members, office staff and government institutions to access.

Further disclosed that in 2021 alone, the district Agricultural Department has so far distributed a total of three thousand four hundred and seventeen (3,417) comprising two thousand, four hundred and Ten (2,410) males and one Thousand and Seven ( 1,007) females have benefited from the following inputs under the subsidy programme.

Hon Godwin Kwame Dadzawa urged all interested farmers to take advantage of the seedlings available at the MOFA nursing sites to improve their income and promote PERD in the district.
In all, nine farmers drawn from various parts of the district were honoured. In conclusion, Hon. Dzadza congratulated all the award winning farmers and urged those farmers in the District who have been working very hard all the years but have not yet been selected for award not to give up.

The South Dayi District on 24th & 25th November, 2021 organized Workshop/ Training for Town Councils and Unit Committees of Tongor-Kpalime Zone and Peki Zone respectively at the District Assembly Hall in the District Capital, Kpeve.
In his opening remark, the DCE, Hon. Godwin Dadzawa welcomed everyone present and then briefed them about the aim of the Training/workshop.
He said the workshop is to equip the Unit Committees to help in Revenue Mobilization/Collection in the District. He said this will enhance development and growth of the District.
He finally urged them to pay attention so as to achieve the goal of the training.
In the first presentation, the Human Resource Manager, Mr. Henry Yevu presented on what the Local Government Structure of the 4th Republic of Ghana entails, which included the Town Councils and Unit Committees.
Mr. Yevu enlightened them on what the Local Government constitute and its importance. He said the Local Government is made up voted or elected Assembly members, Unit Committee members and the Government Appointees of the Assembly. He pointed out that, protection of the citizens from external aggression, efficient method of administering services, maintenance of internal peace and security were some importance of the Local Government.
In the second presentation, the Assistant Director III, Mr. Samuel Eto presented on the Function of the District Assembly. He said the District Assembly as part of its function promote local economic development as well as exercise political and administrative authority in the District.
He revealed that the Unit Committee members are the root of the Assembly and that the staff of the District Assembly supports the Town/Area Councils to carry out their duties.
He further said that the District Assembly collaborates with other agencies such as NCCE, NADMO, Security Services and many other to perform their duties.
In the third presentation, the Assistant Director, Mr. Charles Boazor presented on the Establishment of Substructures which included Sub-Metros, Urban Councils, Zonal Councils, Town Councils, Area Councils and Unit Committee.
He revealed that South Dayi District has two Councils namely Peki Town Council and Tongor-Kpalime Area Council. He also said that a Council is composed of Five(5) Assembly Members, Ten(10) Unit Committee members and One(1) representative of Chief. He further said that the Council has two committees namely Development & Services Committee and Finance & Administration Committee.
He outlined some functions of the Unit committees which included
He advised that the Councils should meet at least once in a month to discuss and address developmental issues.
In the final presentation, the District Finance Officer, Mrs. Cecilia Donkor presented on Revenue Mobilization. She said a bank account should be opened by the Council before approval of the Assembly to commence the revenue collection.
She revealed that those Unit Committees interested in the revenue collection must first be bonded at the court.
She said 50% of the seeded revenue collected belongs to them but the total revenue collected must first be brought to the District Assembly.
She further said 2% of the District Assembly Common Fund belongs to them so they can apply for them any time by specifying what exactly they intend to spend the money on.

The South Dayi District on 23rd November, 2021 organized a day Workshop or Training for all Staff of the District Assembly in the District Capital, Kpeve.
The Assistant Director, Mr. Charles Boazor welcomed the staff present and then briefed the gathering about the purpose of the meeting.
He said the workshop is to enlighten the staff on the Local Government Service Protocols as well as equip them to increase their performance.
He finally urged them to pay attention to the presentation so as to achieve the goal of the training.
In his presentation, the Human Resource Manager, Mr. Henry Yevu projected what the Local Government Service Protocols entails, which included the Scheme of Service, the Code of Conduct and many more.
Mr. Yevu enlightened the Staff on the various Group/Class each staff belongs such as Administrative Group/Class or Engineering Group so that they can discharge their duties with regards to the Protocols. He encouraged all the Staff present to get the Local Government Service Protocols and study it thoroughly to equip them with knowledge.
Mr. Yevu finally entreated all Staff to set individual and Departmental goals and endeavour to achieve them.

The South Dayi District Assembly (SDDA) in collaboration with Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP) has marked this year’s World Toilet Day with a float to sensitise landlords on the need to provide proper places of convenience for their households.
The float which started from Peki Avetile saw the staff of the Environmental Health Division of the South Dayi District Assembly as well as WSUP distributing educational materials about the household toilet facilities and sensitizing residents on the importance of acquiring a proper sanitary facility to attend to nature’s call whiles reinforcing Covid-19 prevention protocols.
The procession marched through Peki Avetile and other adjoining comminuties at the forecourt of Peki Avetile Community Centre amidst music and dancing.
World Toilet Day is an annual global event organized by the United Nations (UN) to raise awareness on the 4.2 billion people living without access to safely managed sanitation.
The UN declared that World toilet day should become an official UN day and should be commerated on every 19th November, every year by a resolution adopted by 122 countries at the 67th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The Day also seeks to address the global sanitation crisis and achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: (Water and Sanitation for all by 2030).
Speaking at a durbar to climax the celebration, District Chief Executive Hon. Godwin Kwame Dzadzawa in a speech said the Assembly through the household toilet facility hopes to eliminate open defecation, improve access to basic sanitation services and promote hygienic attitudes among City dwellers.

He also used the occasion to caution City dwellers against the Covid-19 pandemic and urged them to wash their hands frequently and wear masks always. ‘’Staying hygienic saves lives, Soap and water save lives’’
The District Environmental Health Officer (DEHO) , Mr C.K. Awude in a remark described lives without a toilet facility as “dirty, dangerous and undignified”, insisting that “toilet is dignity, water is life.”
Mr. Awude further highlighted five reasons an individual and institution must own a toilet facility.
