SDDA CONVENES SOCIAL SERVICE SUB-COMMITTEE MEETING

The convener of the Social Services sub-committee of South Dayi District Assembly (SDDA) on Thursday, 16th March, 2023 convened a meeting at the South Dayi District Assembly Hall. This is the first statutory sub-committee meeting organized to deliberate on issues of social concern in order to bring amicable solution to all social problems in the district.

 

At the meeting, the convener of the sub-committee Hon. Elukpedzu Wellington welcomed all members to the meeting. It was followed by a submission of reports by various heads of department and units heads in the district. 

Social welfare and Community Development

Mrs Emma Adom the Director of  Social Welfare and Community Development briefed the house on ;

  1. Justice administration; Social enquiry report written to court ,6. Number of family Tribunal court sitting 40, Juvenile court sitting 40, Juveniles sentence to Senior Correctional Home 2.
  2. Gender: The department organised a programme on teenage pregnancy in Ten Selected Schools in the District.
  3. Child Protection: Data collection on orphans and vulnerable children in the district (8th to 19th Aug 2022)
  4. Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) – 2022 LEAP payment was made to 423 house hold in 29 communities in the district to a total sum of GHC 70,944.00
  5. NHIS – The Department in collaboration with the NHIS Office at Kpeve were able to enrol 2,374  beneficiaries including indigents, LEAP benefiaciaries , School Children , the aged and PWDs

Birth and Death .

Miss Mary Geraldo said Birth and Death is currently exercising it constitutional right on

 Act 1027 which replace Act 309 which gives the unit the mandate to register birth and death for social and economic development.

The office recorded 783 birth for the year 2022 (459 children under 12months and 324 children above 12month)

The year 2021 and 2022  record 70 and 100 death respectively.

 

 

HEALTH

The District Health Director  briefed the house on ;

Shortage of Yellow Vaccines. He said through the intervention of the government the district is currently having the Yellow vaccines so all parents and guardian can access the Yellow Vaccine at any health center in the district for their wards.

COVID 19 – In the year 2022 the district recorded 22 COVID -19 cases. Which is very alarming. He pleaded to all to citizenry to get vaccinated since the COVID -19 is on the rise in the district.

HIV/AIDs – The district recorded a rise in HIV/AIDS cases for the period of 2022.

Out of 872 pregnant women who went for  checkup,  151 was recorded positive representing 4.2% higher than the national prevalence rate of 1.7 percent

 

Education:

The District Education Public Relation Officer talked about

  1. My first day at school which was organised at four schools namely Dzake E.P Primary A&B, Toh D/A Primary Sch., GOVCO Demonstration Basic School, Dzemeni Primary Basic School.
  2. Organised Play based learning under learning to play initiative policy supported by Right to Play organisation.
  3. Commissioning of new class room block at Tsita
  4. Yamoranza Lab 6 , won the 2022 National Robotic club competition at Accra.

The meeting ended successfully with all matters and presentations discussed.
