Volta Regional Minister Pays Surprise Visit to ECG, Demands Answers Over Power Challenges
The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, on Monday paid an unannounced visit to the Volta Regional Office of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in Ho, expressing deep dissatisfaction with the quality of electricity services being rendered to the people of the Region.
Hon. Gunu cited frequent power outages and persistent low voltage as major concerns, noting that such issues have worsened since the beginning of the year. He requested immediate explanations from the management and called for improved communication with the public regarding ongoing challenges and efforts being made to resolve them.
“Our people deserve to know what is going on. There has been no formal communication from ECG about the situation or any plans to address it, and that is unacceptable,” he stated.
In response, the Volta Regional General Manager of ECG, Ms. Christina Jatoe-Kaleo, explained that the erratic power supply is largely due to the voltage levels being fed to ECG by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo). She assured the Minister that ECG is actively engaging GRIDCo and working tirelessly to stabilize power supply across the Region.
The Minister urged ECG to prioritise transparency and public engagement moving forward, stressing that consistent updates would help manage expectations and foster trust between the utility provider and the public
