DISTRICT LEVEL RESEARCH EXTENSION LINKAGE COMMITTEE (RELC) PLANNING SESSION
Today Thursday 2nd Nov 2023 the Department of Agriculture- South Dayi District held its district Level Research Extension Linkage Committee Planning Session at the premises of Kpeve Agricultural Research Station.
In his welcome address the District Crop Officer Mr. Mattew Abotsi thanked all invited agric value chain actors in the District.
He emphasized the importance of the RELC planning session which is to;
- Identify problems/constraints, categorize or prioritize the problems and reflect on interventions needed to address them such as research, training, extension, policy and marketing.
Hon. Godwin K. Dadzawa (SDDA, DCE) expressed his gratitude to the gallant farmers for the great job they were doing to serve mother Ghana. He stressed that the backbone of every economy in the world is Agriculture. Examples are the economies of Malasia, Singapore and America.
He tasked the Department of Agric to do more sensitization on the Phase 2 of Planting for Food and Jobs policy by the government which supports farmers through free seedlings, fertilizers, extension officers and ready market.
During the Planning Session participants were put into various groups to prioritize their farms constraints notable among them were difficulties in accessing fund for Agriculture activities, inadequate of land, high cost of Agric input, inadequate training, inadequate AEAs and veterinary officers, inadequate mechanisation, lack of accessible road to farm lands.
The Director of Agriculture (SDD) Mr. Enoch Dzadzra assured the participants that his office will direct their constraints to the appropriate authorities , traditional rulers, financial institutions, marketers, researchers, the District Assembly and Government.
He further advised members to get used to smart technologies to improve their farming methods.
The planning session brought together farmers, food processors, Agriculture Extension Agents, the DCE. Hon Dzadzawa, Presiding Member Hon. Kafui Dzomeku, Traditional Authorities, Ing. Ben John Dogbe Engineer and Mr. Winfred Fianyo (MIS).
