LAUNCH OF 30 DAYS TO THE 2021 POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS

South Dayi District on Friday 28th May, 2021 launched 30 Days to the 2021 Population and Housing Census at the District Capital, Kpeve.

The Chairman who is also the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Nathaniel Adzotor  said Ghana has been fairly consistent in conducting census every 10 years since 1960 to count and understand its population size,structure and dynamics. He further said the 2021 Census will provide updated information on the population to help track progress made with regards to international, national, regional and global development goals.

The Chairman revealed that the creation of Districts, Constituencies and Regions by successive governments is based mainly on census data. 

The Chairman finally declared that the District Assembly will fully support the Census in order to address the various data gaps needed for effective planning of sectoral programs at the District level.

The District Census Officer who is also the District Development Planning Officer, Mr. Sylvanus Tettey said the Census data will help to transform Ghana’s economy and spur economic development at the National, Regional and District levels. 

Mr. Sylvanus Tettey said information on population growth dynamics is important and highly needed by the MMDAs in planning for education needs, where to locate health facilities,  how to allocate our social expenditures and identify those who really need help in our society.

He finally stated  date for the following activities which included Training of Census Field Officers beginning on Monday 31st May 2021, listing of Structures which will start on 13th June,2021, Census Night on 27th June and Enumeration on 28th June, 2021.

Present at the launching were Hon. Assembly members, Heads of Department, Police Commander, Fire Commander, DTO of ECG, District Electoral Commissioner, Staff of NHIS and Apollo Medial
