ONE DAY DISEMINATION WORKSHOP ON MULTIDIMENSIONAL POVERTY INDEX REPORT HELD AT SDDA.

The South Dayi District Assembly (SDDA) in collaboration with the Ghana Statistical Service GSS has organized a one-day District Stakeholder Engagement on the dissemination of the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) Report at South Dayi District Assembly Hall on Tuesday 25th June 2024.
The workshop was to disseminate the findings of the Ghana Statistical Service report and introduction to the Multidimensional Poverty Index Report, which examined poverty beyond monetary deprivations.
The targeted users of the report include the District Planning and Coordination Unit DPCU, Development Partners, Civil Society Organization (CSOs), the Private Sector, Research Institutions, Academia, Religious Organizations, Traditional Rulers, Media Practitioners and the general public.
The District Coordinating Director, Mr. John Kennedy Cobbah, spoke at the ceremony and stated that the broken-down statistics will help track the advancement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including ending poverty.
The decomposed data will additionally aid in the tracking of advancement towards multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), encompassing SDG 1, SDG 3, SDG 4, SDG 10, and SDG 11.
Mr. Michael Attara the District Statistician took participants through the four primary dimensions of the Poverty Index Report (2021), which are employment, health, education, and living standards across the 13 deprivation indicators.
His report highlights specific areas of deprivation that contribute to multidimensional poverty in the district as follows
i. A total of 15,858 (29.0%) of the 54,690-household population in South Dayi are multidimensionally poor. Among the poor, the degree of poverty is 44.3 percent.
ii. Among the largest localities in South Dayi, the incidence of multidimensional poverty ranges from 65.2 percent in Abui No. 1 to 11.5 percent in Peki Blengo.
iii. Multidimensional poverty is higher among households headed by females (32.4%) compared to males (26.7%)
iv. People with No Education stood at 46.0%, Basic 29%. Secondary 22.8%, Post secondary 10.6, Tertiary 9.7, other 2.4
In his last remarks, Mr. Attara thanked the DCD, Departments and Units heads as well as the Regional Statistician, Mr. Louis Toboh, for taking time out of his hectic schedule to attend the workshop. He pleaded with the DPCU Chairman once more to consider the 13 indicators in order to make informed choices especially when preparing our annual action plan.
