South Dayi District Assembly Holds Finance and Administration Sub-

On Tuesday 14th March 2023, the Finance and Administration sub-committee of the South Dayi District Assembly which is mandated to discuss issues that pertains to finance and revenue generating policies of the district held their first sub-committee meeting for the year 2023. Main objectives of the meeting were to discuss the 2022 Financial performance of the Assembly as at the end of December 2022.

The meeting began with an introductory remark from the Chairman of the Sub-committee; Honourable Obiri Samuel J.K. He expressed his gratitude to all members for taking time to attend the meeting and to discuss pertinent issues of the district.

There was a presentation on the 2022 Financial Performance to the members of the Sub-Committee. It was presented that the top lowest performing revenue items were Property rate GHC 3,636.00 (10.18%) Fines GHC 8,957.00 (63.52%) , Licenses 106,912.52 (65.96%)  amongst others. The top 3 highest performing revenue items included rental of Assembly stores GHC 25,980.00 (121.58%), Fees GHC 334,917.50 (96.25%) Land GHC 45,080.00 (ghc81.96), car stickers, food vendors, support transfer from Stool Lands, Lorry parks, Building Permits, Market Tolls and Conveyance fees.

 

 

There was also a presentation on the Trial Balance as at the end of 31st December 2022. Internally Generated Fund (IGF) Revenue at the end of the year stood at GHC 533,787.02 out of the Annual estimated amount of GHC 644, 134.00 representing 82.87 %.  Expenditure, however, stood at GHC 5,941,046.76 as at the end of December 2022.

The Chairman for the Sub-Committee also led the discussion on how to improve revenue generation especially Property Rate, Business Operating permit, Basic Rate and others within the district and members brought their views and opinions to that effect. The Chairman said that the Property Rate which the Ghana Revenue Authority has announced to collect has not commence yet. He  then tasked the Management to produce the copy of the details of the Contract signed between GRA and the Assembly to guide us on how to collect Property Rate for the year 2023.

The Sub-Committee also reviewed transportation fairs, sitting allowance, ex-gratia to appointed members, Basic Rate and recommended to the EXECO for action to be taken.

The Chairman’s concluding remarks centred on expressing gratitude to members for staying in and giving their respective inputs in the meeting. He also relayed to members that matters of increase revenue should  be a concern to all not only F&A Sub – Committee. He pledged to make sure all sources of revenue for this year would be given a serious attention to boost our revenue to meet our demanding infrastructure deficit.

The meeting ended successfully with all matters and presentations discussed.
