A Denmark based company HTC Agro is to assist fish farmers in South Dayi District in the Volta Region to go into full time cage fish culture
The Chief Executive, Kafui Semenu Bekui, speaking to Ghanadistricts.com described the project as a viable Public-Private Partnership (PPP) venture that will be of mutual benefit to all involved.
He estimated the cost of the project to be around $6 million, adding that they are also hoping to raise between GH¢ 400,000 – GH¢ 800,000 from interested individuals and corporate organizations in the country.
According to him, the focus is to bring all the fish farmers in the district under one umbrella to form a liability company.
The Chief Executive stated that the decision was informed by the fact that 20% of their lands are hijacked by water and they have no option but to find innovative ways of also utilizing them to their benefit.
According to Kafui, the youth will be engaged in the project to create job opportunities.
“Currently, we are organizing the fish farmers in the district but the youth will not be left out in this viable project for an economic transformation in my district” he stated.
He thus urged private institutions, religious bodies and especially indigents to invest in the project in order to make it successful.
